On November 3, 2025, the Ludlow Fire Department responded to Fuller Street for a report of possible hazardous materials in a home. The response followed a resident’s disclosure that he was unsure how to dispose of old chemicals that he had in storage.
The Department of Fire Services’ Hazardous Materials Division and Joint Hazard Incident Response Team, State Police assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Ludlow Police Department, and the Department of Environmental Protection were requested to assist.
During a thorough on-site assessment, Ludlow FD and partner agencies identified certain reactive and energetic materials at the scene. They were contained and labeled but could have posed a potential danger if not handled properly. As a precautionary measure, Fuller Street was temporarily closed to allow emergency personnel and equipment safe access to the scene.
All materials posing a hazard were safely removed from the property. Some required controlled detonations, which were conducted by the State Police Bomb Squad at a designated gravel pit on Carmelina’s Circle in Ludlow shortly after 11:30 p.m. last night. This step was necessary due to the nature and degraded condition of some substances. Residents in the area may have heard loud noises associated with these controlled detonations.
The Ludlow Fire Department assures residents that all actions were taken out of an abundance of caution, with public safety as our top priority.
The department extends its sincere appreciation to all assisting agencies for their professionalism and coordinated response in ensuring the safety of our community.
